We moved!

It has been such a long time since I have been on here writing blog posts! Don't worry, I haven't disappeared completely..for those of you who have been following me on Instagram (@housetohome_design) I have been sharing all of the updates there, but now it's time to provide a long overdue update here!

In case you missed it..we recently MOVED to a new (well older) home! We are still in the same location but decided with the housing market the way it was it was too good of an opportunity to pass up selling our first home that we did a ton of updates to (yes, all of those hours of DIY finally paid off).

Long story short, we found this home off the market and it just was meant to be ours (we got lucky). It's a 1980s home with TONS of character, a decent sized property and so much potential. I am not too fond of the phrase "forever home" because who knows what the future holds, but the size and potential of this home to be ours forever has a great chance.

Reasons why we fell in love with it:

  • Lots of character. That sounds so cliché, but it's hard finding a home nowadays that has character and charm and not cookie cutter (no offense to the cookie cutter homes out there). With the landscaping, crown molding, architecture details, beams, oversized fireplace, etc. we instantly fell in love.

  • Mature landscaping. I have never really had much interest in landscaping until we saw this home and the property it was on. There are beautiful, mature trees, bushes and plants surrounding the home that makes it such a peaceful and tranquil place. I can't take any credit on the landscaping since it was already here, but you will see lots of this in my posts that I share!

  • Great size rooms. The bedrooms in this home are really spacious, and there is lots of storage and closets which is a huge bonus!

  • Privacy. Even though we are in a neighborhood and we have neighbors, there is a lot of privacy between the houses. We are also located in a cul-de-sac which makes it extra private, and away from a lot of road noise, etc.

  • Location, location, location. We wanted to stay in the same location as where our other house was, especially since there are great schools, a wonderful community and lots of fun activities and good places to eat/drink!

  • Move-in ready, but potential for future updates. One of the big reasons we also liked this home is it was move-in ready for us, meaning we didn't HAVE to do any updates to it before moving in. We did do a few things to make it feel more like our style, such as painting a few walls, switching out a few light fixtures..but a lot has already been done here! However...my whole platform here is all about making a house a home, and with that could come potential for projects in the future to continue to make it ours. We have a few projects in mind in the future, but we are not in any rush to get those done right now. A few on the list include: Adding a built-in in the living room, doing a kitchen renovation, master bathroom renovation (tile), and potentially adding a guest house in the back or a third car garage with bonus space above one day.

I'm so glad you are here and following along! My hope is that everything I share here and how we are making our house a home inspires you to do the same!
